Innovate Charlotte is at the heart of the Charlotte region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting high-growth, innovation-driven startups. By fostering community, gathering insights, and sharing stories, we help entrepreneurs access the resources they need to succeed.
Over the years, Innovate Charlotte has launched and supported several key initiatives that have shaped our community. Here’s a snapshot of our past programs:
Based on MIT’s mentoring model, Innovate Charlotte's Venture Mentoring Service (VMS) achieved tremendous success in providing structured, professional support to early-stage, high-growth potential entrepreneurs. Through robust networks of mentors and strategic partnerships with the community, VMS helped 75 companies since its launch in 2018. This program enabled Innovate Charlotte to identify opportunities for creating new resources to further improve the Charlotte startup ecosystem.
Innovate Charlotte's CO.STARTERS Founder Education program was carefully designed to prepare underrepresented founders (female and ethnic minorities) for success in the business world. This 10-week cohort-based program covered essential topics like customer discovery, legal issues, marketing, hiring, and fundraising fundamentals. The program saw significant success, with all members of the inaugural Spring 2021 cohort and nearly all members of the Winter 2021 cohort completing the program, setting a strong foundation for the future of their businesses.
During Global Entrepreneurship Week, Innovate Charlotte partnered with Jabian Consulting to launch the IGNITE Grants program, an initiative that made a remarkable impact on underrepresented entrepreneurs in Charlotte. Designed to bridge the significant gap in seed funding for female and minority business owners, the program was met with an overwhelming response, receiving 80 applications within just one week of minimal marketing. This initiative provided much-needed assistance to entrepreneurs, awarding $20,000 in non-dilutive grants.
